Getting ready for Australia
"There are only four sleeps left before we leave", is how one of our athletes announced the Team's departure on her blog.
After almost a year of organising and planning we are now just doing the last things before the largest South African Transplant Team will be leaving for Gold Coast, Australia to participate in the 17th World Transplant Games on Thursday 20th August. Most of the Team members have received their clothes and SA blazers as well as their Passports and Visas.
The Team of forty athletes will be joined by 20 supporters made up of husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. We have realised that it is very important to have the support of family and sometimes friends to make this trip even more worthwhile. Although he Games is primarily a sporting event, there are also functions where the recipients of organs express their appreciation to those families and friends of people who made decisions to donate organs.
Last Friday, 7th August, the group of athletes from the NorthWest Province were hosted to a function by the NorthWest Dialysis Service, Klerksdorp. The function also served to make people aware of the need for Organ Donation and Transplantation seeing that August is Organ Donor Month.
At the function in Klerksdorp to receive their National Protea Colours were Melanie Gird, Trevor Gird and Kobus Grobler.
The Western Cape Athletes received their clothes at a function held on Friday 14th August.

You all look very glamorous! You will look even better with a bit of gold. Since you are traveling to teh Gold Coast, I assume that will be no problem.
Good luck to all of you.
